Flying with Horses for Children
Flying with Horses is especially honoured to be blessed with being able to offer the wonderful gift of interacting with horses to children and young adults, offering a wide range of activities to suit all ages and interests. There is no riding involved, the focus is on creating a bond with the horses, learning about them, how to groom and feed them. Children over age 8 are invited to learn groundowrk excercises with the horses, being able to lead them and take them on walks, and also learning horse whispering. Each individual is encouraged to experience all areas of horsemanship and then is able to choose their favourite activity, and develop this into a more advanced skill. We encourage independent thinking and the ability to make choices, so that each member gets as much as they can from each interaction with the horses, and in the process learns to recognise their ability to lead themselves and get in touch with what they really wish to experience.
Through interacting with horses, children grow tremendously in confidence. Horses are a gateway through which children can learn to express themselves, open up, overcome fears and emotional blocks, experience a deepening bond of trust and mutual respect, and, most importantly, experience success and seeing themselves being able to learn new skills easily, and see the rewards in a relatively short period of time.
Horses, being incredibly sensitive animals, react to any suppressed emotions and are a valuable way of helping young adults to understand and express their emotions. This is a valuale tool that many of us, even in adulthood, have not managed to aquire, so this is another valuable gift that many of our visitors have received from being with the horses.
Flying with Horses enables our younger visitors to be outside in nature, exploring woodland coppices, observing the wildlife and offers the opportunity of creative self expression in the great outdoors. Inspiration can be gained from seeing that there are a huge array of career possibilities with working with animals, which is often lacking in formal education,and is a career choice often denied to young adults who are not adept at the more logical subjects such as maths which are required for veterinary training and more conventional animal-related careers.
Individual sessions, groups (maximum of 8 children) and family experiences are available at Flying with Horses. We have experience of working with special needs children also, including autistic, aspergers and ADHD, all having benefitted from being able to express themselves openly and focus their minds while working with horses. We also offer creative therapy as an addition to working with horses for children that are artistically gifted and benefit from being able to express themselves through artistic means, such as sketching and painting in various mediums.
Flying with Horses offers a reduced rate or £20 per hour for each child. To book for a day is £200 - £250 depending on the group size, and for individual experiences we also offer a donation-based option to enable all children to benefit from being with horses.
